Massage for Everyone
Massage isn’t just for people who engage in sports. Studies looking at the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress as well as cutting down muscular pain and tension. It has proved to be beneficial for a wide variety of conditions. Fibromyalgia, insomnia, headaches, hypertension, autoimmune diseases such as MS and many other conditions have all seen improvements when massage is included as part of a treatment plan. I am also qualified to carry out the NAT protocol for frozen shoulders, a treatment designed to speed up the ‘defrosting’ of frozen shoulders.
Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people enjoy massage because it can decrease levels of stress hormones and can increase the production of endorphins, reducing stress and anxiety whilst increasing a feeling of relaxation.

Sports Massage
Ante-natal Massage
Sports massage and Soft Tissue Therapy can play an important role for sports men and woman to help prevent injury or to aid recovery from it by addressing chronic and acute tension in the body’s soft tissues. It can also be hugely beneficial to individuals who do not play sport but still find themselves in pain or discomfort. By manipulating soft tissues, massage and STT can help to increase the range of movement of an athletes’ joints and keep the muscles themselves in good condition, thereby reducing the chance of an injury.
Massage helps to move blood and lymph through the circulatory and lymphatic systems to aid the removal of waste products from a damaged area and to mobilise new nutrients in to help repair and build. It is also useful for old injuries where scar tissue is preventing the muscles from working optimally. Not only is this useful after an injury but also after general training too as it is helps with the muscular breakdown and repair cycle central to building strength and size.
As a Level 5 Sports Massage and Soft Tissue Therapist, I use a number of advanced techniques on top of massage such as Trigger Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques, Soft Tissue Release and Myofascial Release. Applying the appropriate therapy can help to reduce muscular tonesticity . Despite its benefits, massage isn't meant as a replacement for regular medical care. You may need to let your doctor know you're trying massage and be sure to follow any standard treatment plans you have.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the benefits of massage to reduce stress and relieve muscle tension. Research into ante-natal massage has demonstrated that massage can relieve muscle aches and joint pains and can even improve labour outcomes. Massage has also been proved to reduce anxiety through the reduction of stress hormones such as norepinephrine and cortisol and increases in dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin..
In my Leighton Buzzard clinic I offer ante-natal massage to mums-to-be from the 13th week of pregnancy. Using gentle Swedish Massage techniques I aim to relax muscle tension as well as improve blood and lymphatic circulation through mild pressure on the main muscle groups of the body. I organic oils specifically formulated for pregnant women to aid relaxation and help with stretch mark prevention.
I will require you to contact your midwife and ensure that they are happy that you receive a massage as only they understand your pregnancy; many like to give a list of do’s and don’t to suit your individual case.
